Wi-fi in vehicles?

Does anybody have this? I think GM was offering free wi-fi in certain trucks and cars, and it sounds like a good idea, especially if you have kids with a lot of devices.

But how does it work, is it wi-fi connected to OnStar? Or through a traditional wireless company like Verizon? Is it free?

Anybody have it, and are you happy with it?

When I bought my 2011 Silverado it had Wifii as a factory option with a free 90 day subscription which ended up being extended to a 180 day trial subscription.
It worked as advertised and I really have no complaints about it.
It operated just like a mobile hotspot.
Service was through Verizon.

ford vehicles now I think and I'm not sure who else. You can get a portable WiFi block now for any device that you can take with you for about $80/month, seems to be getting cheaper all the time,

I think the real question is how reliable and fast the connections are, for what you expect to do with it.

I'm doubtful that these are going to be able to, let's say, stream a movie to a tablet, to keep the kids entertained.

Anyone tried and can confirm your results?

We streamed movies real good during a trip to South Texas.
Hit a few spots that had no connections though.
