Replacing timing belt on older model Toyotas?

I have heard that some of the time schedules have been changed with Toyota. I am wondering about replacing the timing belt on a 1999 model 4Runner at what mileage.

I believe that it should be done around 90,000 miles. Anyone have ideas of this?

For the older models, I believe it is around 90,000 miles or 72 months. If it has not been changed on your 1999, sounds like it is time to make the change.

3.4 interval is 90,000, which is the engine you should have.
Its also recommended you change the water pump at the same time.
In over 40 3.4 engines Ive changed the timing belt on theyve all showed signs of coolant leaking at the water pump.
If your gonna do the job talk to a Toyota dealer for oem parts, many sell a discounted parts kit to do both.
If your taking it in ask about a service discount for having both done at the same time.
