rear drivetrain problem

[97cruiser]

Hi , my 97 landcruiser FJ80 had a noise after reversing then driving forward which has got louder. Having put it on stands, i checked the handbrake and confirmed it was not binding. When in 1st gear the rear wheels do not turn (front do), same in reverse. In Low range the rear turned a few times then stopped. Same with the diff lock when switched on. Could it be a side axel broken?

Has anyone experienced this, and could you please give me an idea of what the problem is?
