I got stuck in mud once by total mistake and took hours to get free.

A snatch strap is one of the most damaging things you can do to the suspension and drivetrain because of loading forces and impact stress. Why didn't Simon hook up the winch in the first place?
These guys are outfitted like explorer/pathfinders, seems like they would be a little more careful how they treat their gear since it still has to get them home.
