Best Way To Install A New Valve Cover Gasket ???

OK, I have got most of the stuff remove from my 2.7l 4cyl to adjust the valves. I have bought a new valve cover gasket kit that includes the rubber large gasket, the 4 spark plug gaskets and all the washer / grommet gaskets for the hold down bolts. I plan to replace the rusty hold down bolts with S/S fasteners and use anti size on them. Two questions? What is the best way to seal the large rubber gasket? Should I use gasket sealer, and if so, what kind? Next, what is the torque speck for the bolts that compress it? I know to start in the center and work my way out to the outside bolts evenly on each side as I go, but I want a good seal, as I don't intend to remove the valve cover again, hopefully ever if all goes well. Thanks for any thoughts, it is a 1996 T100 2.7l with 100k.
