97 T-100 won't turn off

Had a little trouble starting my T-100. When it did start-up, it made a loud pop, a grinding noise and then would not shut down. Had to disconnect the battery terminal to shut it down. Any ideas? Starter? battery? ignition switch? Alternator? Obviously, I'm not a mechanic.
