Compared to the 2015 Colorado, we expect the 2016 model to offer:
Duramax XLD28 turbo-diesel engine:
Officially known by engine code XLD28, the 2.8L Duramax diesel will be manufactured in Thailand. It has been available on the International-market Chevy Colorado since 2012. In the (International-market) 2014 Colorado, the engine makes 200 horsepower and 360 pound-feet of torque when mated to a six-speed automatic transmission.
LTZ trim level
When the 2015 Chevy Colorado was launched, many were surprised not to see Chevy’s legendary LTZ trim level on what is, outside of work truck use cases, a very personal vehicle. As such, we expect that the LTZ trim level will be added to the 2016 Colorado.
Expect to see a starting price of $33,000 in exchange for such amenities as full leather seating, an increased amount of safety equipment, and a bevy of other features as standard on the Colorado LTZ that are otherwise optional on lesser trim levels.
8-speed automatic transmission
General Motors will likely add its new 8-speed automatic transmission to the 2016 Chevy Colorado. Whether or not the new gearbox will be made standard or optional across all trim levels and engine choices or just some, such as the flagship LTZ and Duramax diesel, however, is still unknown.
Appearance packages
Based on comments from Chevrolet management, expect the 2016 Colorado to include several new special edition appearance packages. At the least, we expect two packages on the 2015 Colorado: one that’s chrome-heavy and another that’s blacked-out.
- 2.8-liter Duramax XLD28 turbo-diesel engine
- Range-topping LTZ trim level
- GM’s new 8-speed automatic transmission
- Special-edition appearance packages
