4wd or 2wd.
Manual or automatic.

Never mind 2.4= 2wd.
Your truck with or without the factory trailer package is rated for 3500lbs.
Keep in mind larger tires will decrease the actual weight the truck is capable of safely towing, even though it will still be rated for 3500lbs.
Now actual rating aside in good mechanical condition with stock or near stock size tires and a properly installed class III hitch your truck is capable of safely towing as much as 4500lbs.
If I was towing that much I would also want to add trailer brakes just to increase safety factors.

I got the information from a Toyota truck new owners handbook for 1996 to 2004 Toyota Tacoma trucks.
The book is the official Toyota Motors Lmtd handbook that was delivered with new trucks at time of purchase.
This particular copy was a reissue a friend of mine that works for Toyota got for my 1999 Tacoma a few years ago.
