Toyota is warning owners of 3.8 million of its vehicles in the United States that problems with a removable floor mat could interfere with their vehicle's accelerator and lead to a crash.

While it has not yet issued a recall of the vehicles, the company has published a safety advisory that instructs owners to remove their floor mats, and gives tips on what to do in the event that their pedal becomes stuck, causing unintended acceleration.

The vehicles affected are the 2007-2010 model year Toyota Camry, 2005-2010 Toyota Avalon, 2004-2009 Toyota Prius, 2005-2010 Tacoma, 2007-2010 Toyota Tundra, 2007-2010 Lexus ES350 and 2006-2010 Lexus IS250 and IS350.

Toyota is developing a safety campaign to better address the issue, which it hopes to launch by next week.
