Hi tbplus 10. Oil(fluid) color is difficult to tell, as most is no longer liquid. Some small liquid amount on U Joint just aft of trans. Appears to be dark. I had trans worked on a year ago, and this when leak. Could see stain on ground. I think perhaps the shop did something incorrect...

HI all, another question: While mechanic was checking out wheel bearings he discovered a small hold in the drive shaft just aft of where the ujoint joins the transmission. Fluid(oil) is leaking from that hole and smattering on the catalytic converter. Is there a purpose for that small hole...

Hi, thank you very much for the reply. I had bearings replaced, and could not find anything wrong. Metal on metal grating sound occurs down hill on a sharp curve. Sounds like when brake pads rub against rotor, but no evidence of that. Mechanic is at a total loss. Any ideas? Thanks Jay

Thanks Kenny am in the process of doing that. Just surprises me that bearings would go with only 120,000 miles on the truck.

Up Update on trans. Had it rebuilt, mostly bearings, second gear, and resurface for 1800 dollars at a reputable transmission shop in Long Beach CA. Thanks to all for your input. Jay
