Toyota 4Runner US sales are crazy strong.

WOW! Take a look at the US sales figures for the Toyota 4Runner through 2017. Looks like the marketing around the 4Runner back a few years ago worked and the platform just about saw record US sales in 2017. The numbers for 2018 look just as good.

Strong sales, but Toyota had better NOT mess with the 4Runner formula: namely that a body-on-frame off-roader still sells well and generates lots of profit. A salesman at my local dealer claimed about a year ago that the 4Runner was going with a unibody, but there's been no further communication about that rumor. Keep your fingers crossed.

They're selling almost 10x as many as they did in 2009. That's an amazing turnaround.

IMHO, the '09 sales proves that you can't keep whipping a dead horse--or keep producing a vehicle well beyond its model life--as the results are the same. At least Toyota has put some thought into keeping the current generation alive by adding some newer models/versions (like the TRD Pro). Now, will Toyota PLEASE replace that V6 dog of an engine with a turbo'ed V6 or that great 4.7L V8 that they used for a few years? The 4Runner has needed a new engine for years.

The more I look at this, the more impressed I am with the turnaround. They went from being on life-support as a brand (which they never can get rid of it!) ... to roaring back with a good product and great marketing.
