Japanese car maker Toyota announced it will recall around 752,000 Corollas which could have faulty airbags and 270,000 Lexus vehicles over possible windshield wiper malfunctions.

The manufacturer said the recall concerned airbags which could inadvertently deploy due to an electrical fault and wipers which could fail to operate under heavy loads such as build-up of snow on the windshield.

A Toyota spokesman said two crashes connected to the airbag fault had been reported, though the company had not been able to verify the cause nor determine whether anyone had been injured as a result.

He added there had been 35 reports in total relating to the airbag issue, 18 of which complained of "abrasion injuries", and 25 complaints over the wiper malfunction.

The recall affects vehicles in the US, Canada, Mexico and Japan - but not the UK.

It involves certain 2003 and 2004 Corollas and Lexus IS Vehicles from 2006 to early 2012.
