T100 Noise At Low Speed?

Doyle O. Bailey

1993, bought new. Close to 300k miles. Love the size and comfort of the single cab with formal bench
seat.

Question: At low speeds (very low like backing up, etc) there is a noise, especially when breaking, to
change direction (parking for example). Been hearing the noise "thump" I guess describes
as well as anything. Been going on for a while, doesn't seem to be a driving problem.
My question is: what would cause this? At first I thought it was my trailer hitch ball rolling back and forth
behind the seat of the truck. Then, after a while realized that wasn't what is happening.

Everything still works, no problem going down the road. Any ideas?

I would have someone walk beside while backing up and locate the area, that will tell you where the problem is and probably you can figure out the rest.

Put it up on a lift in park, spin each rear wheel as much as you can back and forth and look for the play / noise. Most likely at those miles a U joint is warring out.
