SRS airbag troubleshooting 2004 taco 2wd

2.4L 5sp, 74k miles(not a typo, yes 74 thousand miles) My SRS lights been on solid (no blink) for 2 years. I finally decided to look into it. Below is a video of the codes with Tc and CG bridged(shorted). After ignition on for over 20 seconds.

Yes I 1st checked all the fuses, with ohm meter.

This video is started before Tc and CG are bridged, so u see it lite solid. Then as Tc and CG are bridged, it goes out for 4 seconds, then starts showing the codes. It cycles 3 times through the codes. Here:

another video taken the day before. This video started mid way through the codes:

It looks to me like 31, 11, 1, 2, 52 or maybe 31, 111, 2, 52. Since 1, 2 and 111 dont exist, maybe it is 11 and 12.

Either way it does not follow the service manual:

"When 2 or more codes are indicated, the codes will be displayed in numeral order starting from the lowest numbered code" "In the event of a number of trouble codes, indication will start from the smallest numbered code"

Additional from service manual:

"The first blinking output indicates the first digit of a 2–digit DTC. After a 1.5–second pause, the second blinking output will indicate the second digit."

"If there are 2 or more codes, there will be a 2.5–second pause between each code. After all the codes have been output, there will be a 4.0–second pause and they will all be repeated"

of course there is also: "If a code not listed on the chart is displayed, the "airbag sensor assembly" is faulty". Since all 20 of the codes listed in the DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART list "airbag sensor assembly", I might need to go through all 20 tests. My luck the last test will find the issue. Actually, worse none of them will find it, which means Id need to do it again to be sure. Ahhhhhh.

The DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART for my taco here: http://www.markofshame.com/fsm/03_Tacoma/Repair_Manual/03tacoma/di/rs/dtcc.pdf

Ideas/suggestions?

Tks, pa

They make a simulator, that plugs into the connectors that have the correct resistance that the system is looking for, so you can find where the problem is. Unplug the connector from the air bag, and plug in the simulator. If that bag is the issue, then the light will go off once you turn the key back on. There are videos you can watch on you tube.

Air bag Simulator, or emulator. E-bay sales them, and Im sure that Amazon does too. The real issue with the light being on is that the air bags wont deploy if you get in a wreck, not to mention, You may have issues passing you states inspection.

All air bag systems work off of the same principal, the system checks for the correct resistance from each air bag. If the resistance is correct, the airbag light turn off. If not the light turns on. The simulator, will pin point each air bag by sending the correct resitence that the system is looking for. So if you unplug the connector for the steering wheel air bag, and plug the simulator in its place, the turn on the key, and the system cycles, and the light goes off, then you know, its that air bag. Its always a good idea to disconnect the battery for 60 seconds or more when working on air bags. You dont want to set off an air bag when working on the system. An air bag has enough force to kill a person under the rite conditions.

No, thats not what Im saying. By using the simulator, this should pin point you in the rite direction. If you have a pinched wire, or something like that, then it will need to be fixed also. A lot of the time, its a bad connection at the plug for the air bag. I think the resistance is 2 to 2.5 ohms. Im sure you could use a multimeter to check resistance of each air bag, and not have to use a simulator at all. If all air bags read between 2 and 2.5 ohms then the issue has to be else where. When you turn on the ingition key, the srs sends a pulse to each air bag. If the resistance is not within the 2 to 2.5 resistance range, then the light will stay on. Even just a bad connection will give a bad reading causing the light to stay on. Its a precess of elimiation. It will be somewhere in the system that sends the signal to check the air bags most likely. I have looked at my sons 2010 Tacoma, because His air bag light is on. I think His issue is in his seat. The springs are broken on the drivers side, and in 2010, they have side curtain air bags. He just got the truck a few weeks ago, and will swap the seats for a set of bucket seats. I hoping to find a set from a Corolla or Camry around the same year. Then hopefully the side curtain air bags on those seats will work with His truck. If not them we will just use simulators, and the side curtain air bags in the seat will just not deploy.
