Heater/Air Conditioner Fan

I have a 2007 Tacoma, standard cab, 4 cylinder, 2 wheel drive. The heater fan no longer is variable speed. Over the past few years, in the winter, the heater fan required operation at full speed for a few minutes before I could adjust to moderate fan speeds. This summer I find that I am unable to use anything but full speed. Does the fan switch tend to go bad, or, does the fan itself go bad?

There is a resistor that controls the fan speed. When it goes out, it is common to only have high speed. Im not sure just where it is on you truck but it should be on the HVAC box. Here is a video on where it is and how to replace it.
