Can anyone identify this?

I have been tasked with selling this engine and front end (see pic) of what I was told is a Toyota. Long story but it was donated by Toyota to a school for their use on the transmission, which is not included. The rest, as seen in the pic, has never been used or disassembled (except for the air conditioning compressor, for some reason that was unbolted). The professor that had this project is gone and no one left there needs it. Anyway, I am not by any means a Toyota expert and have no idea where to begin to identify what this is (year, model, etc.). Can any of you ID this? Is there tags or numbers I should be looking for? Thanks.

Looks like a 3.4 sitting in a 2wd Tacoma front frame clip.
Yr model could be anywhere from 1996 to 2004.
Look for a serial number on on the engine block, call your local Toyota dealer parts counter with the serial number and they should be able to give you a yr and model.

The VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) would determine the year model and also some other information, 17 numbers and letters

The 10th letter or number of the VIN tells you the model year of the vehicle. Note that this may be different from when it was manufactured, as many automobile manufacturers start to produce next years model this year. Find the model year by matching the 10th digit of your VIN to the table below:

A = 1980
B = 1981
C = 1982
D = 1983
E = 1984
F = 1985
G = 1986
H = 1987
J = 1988
K = 1989
L = 1990
M = 1991
N = 1992
P = 1993
R = 1994
S = 1995
T = 1996
V = 1997
W = 1998
X = 1999
Y = 2000
1 = 2001
2 = 2002
3 = 2003
4 = 2004
5 = 2005
6 = 2006
7 = 2007
8 = 2008
9 = 2009
A = 2010
B = 2011
C = 2012
D = 2013
E = 2014
F = 2015
G = 2016
H = 2017
J = 2018
K = 2019
L = 2020
M = 2021
N = 2022
P = 2023
R = 2024
S = 2025
T = 2026
V = 2027
W = 2028
X = 2029
Y = 2030

As you can see, each letter or number has been assigned to two different years. To find out which one applies to your VIN, you must look at the 7th letter or number in your VIN. If the 7th VIN position is a letter, then your vehicle is made in 2010 through 2039. If the 7th VIN is a number, then your vehicle is made prior to 2010.

Unfortunately being a mfrs training device it isnt required to have a VIN since its not a full vehicle, so probably the only thing he'll find will be an engine ser # which will be required since its a full assembly. It looks like they didnt even include the radiator/support or inner fenders, theoretically the clip would never be useable.
