I got a chance to test drive the new 2019 RAV4 at the 2018 Texas Truck Rodeo. I was embarged from talking about the MSRP, mileage, and driving impressions until the end of this month, but there are important design features you might be interested to know before they go on sale at the end of this year (Hybrid RAV4 goes on sale in January 2019).
Here is everything that comes standard on 2019 Toyota RAV4 Adventure.
Dynamic Torque Vectoring All-Wheel Drive with Rear Driveline Disconnect (a first for Toyota). The 2019 RAV4 Adventure will be equipped with Multi-Terrain Select at offers different driving modes for various weather conditions. A Dynamic Force 2.5 liter Inline four cylinder engine with an 8-speed Direct-Shift automatic transmission will be the only engine option offered for Adventure trim.
Standard infotainment will be the Entune 3.0 with Wi-Fi Connect powered by Verizon, and will be compatible both Amazon Alexa and Apple CarPlay. I don’t use Alexa so I don’t understand why someone would want that in their car, but I digress. Second Generation of Toyota Safety Sense will be standard and includes a pre-collision system that uses radar and cameras to scan for pedestrians up ahead. It will then alert the driver with audio and visual warnings before giving automated braking assistance.
Others standard visual features on the 2019 Toyota RAV4 Adventure trim level include:
High-rise roof rails
Large over-fenders
Unique (Tacoma inspired) grille design
Fog lights
Available white roof
Interior
The wider wheelbase on the 2019 RAV4 allows for more room in the interior. Rear cargo space is equipped with rubber floor matting, and rear seating is amble giving plenty of head room for hats or heads that stand over six feet off the ground. Orange highlight accents decorate the interior to inspire a more athletic attitude (I do hope they decided to offer different colors). The door handles and certain dials on the dashboard are wrapped in a rubber pattern which felt like bicycle handlebars to the touch, but gave plenty of traction if you’re wearing gloves during cold winter days.
Exterior Design
All new design for 2019, the front grille inspired by the Tacoma and gives the RAV4 a more aggressive look. The arched headlights reminded me of the first gen RAV4 from the 1990’s. Flared arches and sharp edges give the RAV4 a completely different look from the previous generation. Walking around it I kept wondering how the 2019 RAV4 would look with off-road tires, a snorkel exhaust, and maybe even a lift kit. It’s a crossover CUV but it looks the part for what the Adventure badge is stating. That you can take it from the driveway to the camp site.
