2014 Toyota Tundra Limited Crew Max

Overview

The Toyota Tundra Limited Crew Max is a tough competitive for the full-size truck segment and should not be overlooked for those shopping for a half-ton pickup. Power offered by the Tundra is downright impressive at 381 horsepower and 401 lb-ft torque. This heavyweight 5-passenger truck weighs around 5,850 lbs. Even the heaviest loads pose no threat to the Tundra that is able to pull ~10,000 pounds when properly equipped. With all its capabilities, it’s really no surprise that the Toyota Tundra is now ranking with the top contenders in this crazy-competitive full-size truck segment.

The Crew Max has drawn the attention to the tall and masculine grille and huge front grille. This stylish workhorse is a tough competitor to its rivals. The upgraded interior of the Limited Crew Max includes a power sliding rear window and with Entune Premium Audio with Navigation and App Suite that offers smartphone connectivity to perform virtually anything via voice command while driving, a definite positive safety attribute.

New for 2014

Getting an enhanced look and make-over for 2014, the exterior of the Tundra has completely changed and under the hood, the engine options remain the same. Toyota has changed the rounded edges of the truck to squared-off lines. The hood is higher than it had been previously with a massive grille in the front. With the large “TUNDRA” stamped on the tailgate there will be no mistaking what you are driving. Also, the headlights have taken on a redesign as well.

The interior is updated with the capabilities of the Entune smart phone connections and with better dash appearance and calming wood trim. The outgoing design was much more utilitarian with large knobs and great for the work man, but it wasn’t matching the competition that offer the premium high quality materials for 2014. All the interior enhancements made to the 2014 Toyota Tundra make it an all-around more comfortable ride.

Interior/Exterior Features

The exterior offers the look of a workhorse but also holds comfort for the entire family. The lifted hood and bigger grille helps the Tundra compete with a rugged image that also has the power, size and capabilities to back it up.

The large interior dashboard with the touchscreen display is standard for all models. The optional touch screen navigation and Entune connectivity system is a huge selling point for the Tundra. In this technology era, many new car shoppers would never dream of buying a vehicle without this type of connectivity.

When you opt for the 2014 Toyota Tundra CrewMax Limited, it will come standard with the 5.7-liter V-8 engine. Some of the extra features added on this model include: power sliding rear window, tilt/telescoping steering wheel, auto-dimming rearview mirror, climate control, heated, leather trimmed front buckets and JBL audio with 12 speakers. A navigation system with a rearview camera and a rear-seat DVD player can be added as options.

Performance/Drivetrain Features

The Tundra is available with three engine options. The base engine is a 4.0-liter V-6 that puts out 270 horsepower and 278 pound-feet of torque. The first choice of the two V-8 options was a 4.6-liter with 310 horsepower and 327 pound-feet of torque. The most powerful option is the 5.7-liter V-8 that puts out 381 horsepower and 401 pound-feet of torque. The V-6 comes paired to a five-speed automatic transmission, while the V-8 options get six-speed automatics. The Tundra can haul up to 2,090 pounds and tow up to 10,400 pounds. The Maximum towing and payload capacities are class-leading.

Toyota Tundra is no different than the other workhorse trucks on gas mileage. The 4.0-liter V-6 is rated at 16/20; the rear-wheel-drive 4.6-liter is rated at 15/19 and 14/18 for the four-wheel-drive model; ratings are 13/18 for the rear-drive 5.7-liter and 13/17 for the four-wheel-drive model.

Safety/Mechanical Features

The Toyota Tundra Limited Crew Max is rated a top safety pick with the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and has a 4 out of 5 star rating with the National Highway Safety. The multi airbags, electronic stability control and traction control make the Tundra a safe ride for any season.

One of the reasons the 2014 Toyota Tundra is gaining so much popularity in the market is due to the fact it offers a tremendous amount of power. One feature holding the Tundra back is that there is no integrate brake controller for trailer. The top three half-ton trucks offer the trailer brake as standard. There is also no locking differential which offers great advantages for the off-roading adventures.

What’s it like to Drive?

You will notice when cruising down the road how quiet and smooth the ride is that is offered by the Tundra. Seats are huge, and comfort is abundant throughout the cabin. Steering by some drivers is said to be precise but it has some touchy brakes. This vehicle does excellent off-road, while it could stand some enhancements to match the off-road features offered by the competition, such as locking differential.

Toyota is a brand you can trust and the Tundra has earned a strong reputation for dependability and reliability. The overwhelming satisfaction of Tundra owners proves the Tundra is a quality truck and you won’t be disappointed with this investment.
