2006 Toyota RAV4 Tailgate / Rear latch won't open

I've got a friend with a 2006 Toyota RAV4 and their rear door / tailgate door won't close, it's stick in the open position ... this is a side-opening rear-door.

I've done a little bit of research and it looks like there has been an actuator failure on the rear latch on a number of different RAV4s, so that's where I'm going to start him off at.

Anyone else have any other suggestions?

Just reported back to me that he was able to get the back panel off and was able to move the lock into place where the door will at least close now. Going to get a new actuator during the week.
