The smog pump on my truck burned out and the seals on the pump broke into small pieces of rubber. Those pieces apparently were pumped into the EACV and now the engine runs really rich until it reaches normal operating temps at which time it runs great. Anyone familiar with this problem?

Well as far as i know you have to overall the engine so that it perform batter than before.

It's possible to rebuild the carb and adjust it to run somewhat correct without the smog pump. But removing the smog pump is a federal offence, and depending on the state you live in it could get noticed quickly. (if you have pollution inspections).
Many of the aftermarket carbs that those year engines arent even set up to use the smog pump.
You could also rig the choke with a reostat control so it wouldnt run as rich during cold running.
