The Toyota FT-86 Open concept car is likely to go on sale as the GT86 convertible later this year

The Toyota FT-86 Open concept car has been revealed ahead of its debut at the 2013 Geneva motor show next week.

Although it's officially labelled as a concept car, the FT-86 Open shows how a convertible version of Toyota's GT86 coupé would look. Toyota used the FT name for concept car versions to the GT86 and the Open concept car appears production-ready.

The FT-86 Open has the same exterior dimensions as the GT86 and shares many body panels. The fabric roof folds to leave a flush rear panel, and the GT86's rear seats are retained.

On the show car, a blue roof contrasts with white bodywork and white leather upholstery

No pictures of the car with the roof up have been released, and Toyota hasn't confirmed whether it folds manually or electrically.

Toyota says that further engineering evaluation is needed for a production version, but that the GT86 was "designed with the development of a cabriolet in mind."
