2005 Sequoia Tow Hitch Rust

Hi, first time posting.
My 2005 Sequoia tow hitch is rusted rotten with the 5 point outlet completely hanging off.
Never been in saltwater
Has anyone else had rust issues with the tow package?

Welcome to the forum, I have a 2004 - 4 Runner and my receiver still looks new.

Welcome from VA. Any chance it was used in the "rust belt" where salt, brine, and chemicals are spread on roads. Post a pic if possible.

It was from NJ so the rust belt is in play. I would not attempt to tow a trailer right now.
Looks like it's bolted on so probably dealer installed?
I guessing it's probably not covered by any Toyota recall

I don't know about a specific recall for your vehicle but I would check the entire frame and undercarriage for any other rust issues.

Thanks for everyone's response. The frame is good, checked Vin and no recalls. CarFax shows continuous maintenance.
Just seemed odd to me that the tow setup would be rusted and nothing else.
