    Default T 100 start problem

    I posted this question in the wrong place.

    I have an auto, 6 cyl, T100 that will not start. When it was running, I was rolling forward & popped it into rev or visa versa, & the next day I tried to start it but it would not even turn over. I noted the 'P" was not lit up. I stepped on brake & moved trans lever to "N" & it lit up & immediately it started normally & ran, but even though the trans shifted normally the "N" light stayed lit or no light would be lit.

    Also, the cruise stopped working. Then yesterday I tried to start it in "N" but it would not.

    I am guessing there is an electrical switch that controls the trans light display, the start switch & the cruise control that has broken... but I do not know ...

    Any help?

    If I read what you said correctly, you were driving forward (at some speed - how fast) and you put it into Reverse. Did it lock down when you did that? The next day you had a hard time getting it out of gear and you think that it was perhaps locked in-gear and didn't go in park properly?

    Does it start now in Neutral, but doesn't start in Park? If that's the case then it's not getting into Park properly. The transmission should have caught the fact that you were going into reverse when still going forward and not caught and stripped out your tranny, but I'm not sure. I know that modern 2002+ tranny will not allow that ... they're all computer controlled.

    No, sorry, I will try to be more clear: I was rolling under 5 mph, when I thru it into rev. it still ran & the tranny works fine, I started it in "N" for several days & the truck ran normally: only the shift indicator light was not right & the cruise did not work.
    Then after several days starting it all day with the shift lever in "N" position it ceased to start in "N" & the shift indicator light on the dash stopped lighting up altogather.
    I understand what you are getting at, but it was not the tranny that is the problem, but an electrical switch tied to the the tranny??!
    That is why I am here: seeking wisdom.

    Yeah, i think you're right. Do you have enough juice to try to pull some codes. I know that if you don't have a scanner then it's hard to get to an autoparts place to get the codes read.

    What year is the t-100?

    It is a 97 T100. So a scanner will give me the code to get the right part? Cool.

    Well, the scanner will give you a code showing you what the sensors are picking up ... if they are picking something up. My bet is that they will find something that you can start tracking down from there.

    If you have a 1997 then you have OBDII (On Board Diagnostics II). This puts a plug up near the drivers part of the cab where you can get the code pulled from. In 1996 the OBD-II specification was made mandatory for all vehilces sold in the United States.
