Back in Novembe 2015 Toyota Tacoma '87 pickup started running poorly. Surging with occasional stalls. Repair shop said it was the carburetor and proceeded to try 3 different carbs (rebuilt). The final one is on there now, its a weber. The original filter housing was simply removed. I am curious about the now uncovered nipple on the valve cover. Should this air be routed somewhere? the mechanic said that its just air and not to worry. However, the mechanic now reports that our state of Nevada requires the smog test to be conducted with original air filter equipment in order for them to issue a passing certificaiton. He seemed unaware of this, but said the truck passed emissions with no problem. Was this because the exhaust gases were routed into space, so not picked up by the sensors?
