Oh I do as well. I catch myself looking down at it all the time now. We've been low to mid 90's this week, high humidity, but I haven't been sitting idling much. Noticed the fan clutch has been kicking in after traffic lights though lately. Not sure why the new sensor didn't fix the gauge...
Not sure. Truck hasn't tried to run hot on me again since the coolant flush. So maybe that was the issue. I can deal with the gauge reading low....at least until I decide to do an engine swap....at some point or another.

Sorry I forgot to update. It is the one I replaced. Has the little flat blade terminal on top. Didn't make my gauge start working correctly though. Still reads really low all the time.

Which sensor controls the dash temp gauge? I replaced the one going directly down into the intake (between injectors 2-3 if I recall). Notice there are two more pointing out the front, under the upper radiator hose. One of those?
Oil is normal....no signs of water. Coolant is bright green, and not dis colored like oil is in it.
Could very well be cavitation. Will change coolant out later in the week and see if it helps.

My little beater 92, 22re with 5spd.
Sitting in a drive thru this morning, 80ish was outside temp, started getting a whiff of coolant, looked down and my temp needle was up over half way (normally runs very low...needs a sensor I know). Had been sitting idle for 15mins, no AC on. Being up...
Good deal. I looked back in te intake the other day. Looks pretty gunked up. Wondering if maybe it'll just be easier to pull the upper manifold and have it hot tanked. Have a customer with a radiator shop that keeps telling me to bring anything I want to him to clean.

Tires that big will drop it, as will that sail up top catching wind. As will what appears to be a big heavy tube bumper up front, and possibly a metal headache rack in the back?
Doesn't seem like much, but it all adds up quick, especially with the 4cyl.

Dashpot huh? Never in my life would I have figured it would be called that! Thanks guys. I'll give all that a try.
What's your preferred flavor of spray injector cleaner?

About 5000 miles ago when I first started driving it. Inside the intake looks pretty gunked up. Been debating pulling it off and soaking it to clean it out, but my other truck took all my free time up until now. But it's back rolling again tearing up the streets so I can finally dedicate some...
I'm talking about the plunger looking valve? One my finger is on. The throttle actually rests in it at idle. It moves in and out...just trying to figure out what it actually is.
And what would cause this thing to stay idled so high all the time.

Well it seemed to be a tad high to me before it got cold. Maybe 8-900ish. But now that it's cold, like I said, anywhere from 16-1800rpms at idle. Doesn't matter if it's just been cranked or has been running for an hour.
