Has anyone experienced premature clutch slippage on these models? Mine is an '09 Access cab 4 x 4, 5 speed manual, pure stock. I started feeling clutch slippage at 5000 miles in 3rd and 4th gear , on a hard pull, uphill. Truck has now 15,000 miles and is slipping pretty badly. Dealer wants me to pay for diagnosis fee of $480.
I have owned 4 previous manual trans Toyotas , with mileage from 161,000 to 191,000 miles and never needed to replace a clutch, so I think I drive them conservatively.

I am thinking the problem is either a weak pressure plate or oil getting onto the clutch disc, in either case it should be warranteed. Please tell me your experiences.

If you're still under warranty you shouldn't have to pay anything to have it checked out or fixed. I would talk with the dealership's head manager and if that didn't work contact corporate, that's why you have a warranty. If all else fails try a different dealership.

The dealers Service manager and the dealership owner have been uncooperative. Toyota corporate hot line initially has sided with the dealer, I am now awaiting a call back from the Hot Line supervisor.

I will probably try a different dealership tommorrow.

Wow, that's pretty surprising. I would push the issue and have them look into it, at the very least they could have a service rep drive it with you sitting as a passanger and feel what's going on. I wouldn't pay $500 for a diagnostics fee for a 15,000 mile truck.

Where are you located? Can you find another dealer to look at it?
