HELP!! I just recently shipped my 2000 Tundra from Hawaii to the mainland. Since being back on the mainland my MPG has significantly dropped. I used to get about 350 miles/tank and now am getting only about 270. There are no check engine lights or performance changes, she drives like she always did. I have fresh NKG's and air filter. If anyone has any ideas I would love to hear them.

How many tanks have you run through since you moved back? What part of the country did you move to also?
The engine in your 2000 is computer controlled and has a memory for how it is driven and it managed fuel/air mixture, etc. based on history. The gas in Hawaii is dramatically different than the gas in Denver for example, so your engine is still trying to drive according to the old way. You can either unplug your battery and turn the lights on to drain all the juice, or let it cycle a few times. Those are complete cycles, on-start-run until hot-turn off-let cool.

I have run about 6 or 7 tanks since moving to the mainland. I just filled up today and calculated a little over 12 mpg. I used to get between 15-16 mpg and am totally baffled by all of this. I called the dealer to see if they had any ideas to consider. Not surprisingly, I was told that since there is no Check Engine Warning that there was nothing they could think of.

I also am currious about improving the mpg out of my fiances 03 tundra. I have a 99 silverado with 33 in tires lift kit 5.3 motor with the computer upgrades exhaust and air modifications and i get almost 20 mpg where my fiances stock tundra if she gets 15 she is lucky, so far i have only dropped a k&n filter into it and ill do some exhaust down the road. we live in littleton, CO if any have been sucsesfull at improving your mpg let me know

This must have something to do with the change in terrain. Are you driving over a lot more hills, mountains, etc.? Can't imagine what else could be the issue, unless some injectors got clogged while it was sitting around. Of course you would get a check-engine light if that was the problem. Strange.
