200,000 miles and a shaky engine 01' Tacoma

Can anyone give me some advise?

I just got my tacoma and it has a bad idol.

its an 01 regular base modle 4.6, 2wd, with 206,000 miles

when i start up when its cold it drives fine, but when i park it and come back about 5 minutes later, the engine shakes like crazy. the check engine is always on, but when it shakes, it blinds when i drive it.

i have no idea what it is, but if any one knows please pass me some advice.

I agree, you can get a scanner yourself, or just about any of the national/regional auto part chains will scan for you for free.

If it is idoling rough/shacking first things first see what the check engine light is all about then try changing the wires and plugs or if it has coill packs you might have something going on with one of them

Anyone else have any ideas? I'm sure that the problem was figured out by now but it may be useful for others to use as a reference.
