Anyone else notice that gas prices have risen sharply in the last two weeks. :-(

Musher_Vic

I commute about 80 miles a day so I fill up about every 3 days. Prices seem higher each time. I think I'm paying $2.40 a gallon now...

toyotafan

$2.40/gallon? In NY? Where is Cobleskill at?

Musher_Vic
07-21-2005, 10:29 AM
Cobleskill is about 40 miles west of Albany. I commute to Albany for work 5 days a week.

toyotafan
07-21-2005, 01:20 PM
Ok, you're upstate more. That's a pretty part of the country. I used to work for a banch of a company that had it's HQ in Somers, NY. that's about 60 miles north of NYC. Spend a little bit of time up there a few years ago.

What type of gas mileage do you get commuting?

Musher_Vic
07-21-2005, 01:53 PM
Small world -- I grew up in Somers and most of my family is still there. I graduated from Somers High in 1973 and joined the army shortly afterwards and have not lived there since. Downstate gives me a headache. I moved to Albany in 1980 and to East Cobleskill 2 years ago. I lived in Lake Placid in 1997.

Don't kick me off the site but I commute to work in my 2004 Xterra, which sucks on gas, but I love it anyway. My old warrior -- 1989 Toyota 4 x 4 SR5 pickup -- sees mostly weekend duty now. The gas milage on the X is so painful I don't figure it out but it is probably around 17-18 mpg. I would have bought another Toyota last year but I wanted a truck-based SUV with a 5 speed in the $24,000 price range and Toyota did not make one. I guess that is why Toyota is coming out with the FJ Cruiser -- to compete with the Xterra. I think it is a good move -- they lost a loyalist when I bought the X.

Wow, it really is a small world! I was shocked when I flew into the Westchester county airport (Newburg is it?) and took a shuttle to the hotel in Fishkill. The area was just so beautiful that I couldn't believe it. It reminded me of growing up in the Northwest.

No one's getting kicked off the site. I drive my wife's car to work a lot of the time to save gas, so I'm getting like 30+ MOG to/from work, so we're saving a ton of money.

Musher_Vic

Newburgh Airport is in Newburgh, Orange County. It sounds like that is what you probably flew into as your hotel was in Fishkill.

Were you with Pepsico? My sister used to work at there HQ in Somers. Nice facility. Seems like they really knew how to take care of their employees in good times. Of course, they had to downsize in bad times.

Has anyone tried one of those Tornado Fuel Savers that are offered on TV? I was thinking about ordering one. Any little bit to help with the rising cost of fuel may help. Any feed back out there from anyone who may be using or considering using one would be appreciated - thanks!

Anyone interested intrying a new fuel supplement capsule that is guaranteed to increase mpg and is fully insured and refundable log on to www.madmax.myffi.biz and read up on it. I am getting about 2 more miles to the gallon in my v-6 Tacoma. My wife is getting about 5 more miles to the gallon in her Mitsubishi. :D :D

Gas prices have been on a roller coaster over the past few years. I'm convinced that it's market hedgers that have caused it to be artifically high...

Gas is about $2.60 here in Dallas right now.

Papas-Toy

It's over $3.00 in Oregon.

toyotafan

back to about $2.90 here in North Texas. Oil supplies are actually way UP, there is more gasoline storage in our national reserves than ever before, but speculators are buying and holding (and not taking delivery) of oil contracts, so they're driving the price of gasoline up, up, up.

toyotafan

Gas prices keep rising and falling again. :-(

ToyotaPitty
10-08-2010, 03:10 PM
oh yeah... gas prices only continue to climb. Unfortunately, it appears that it will continue to climb and not go back down. Now that the Gulf Oil Spill occurred, there will be no relief in sight. Good thing so many vehicles are going flex fuel and electric.

They're raising the prices right now. $2.90 at the QuickTrip in Dallas. Often gas prices go up before a holiday weekend, it's columbus day on Monday so lots of people going out of town for a three-day weekend.

I'm changing jobs so I'm burning my PTO as fast as I can. Went to the state fair of Texas today and dropped $200 easy. I was like WHAT? I'm not sure if it was worth it or not, did get to see all of the trucks in the truck area including the 2011 Toyotas. (another post - OFF TOPIC)

ToyotaPitty

I remember when people started protesting the rising gas prices by refusing to buy gas on certain days. Too bad it didn't seem to work out that well. People would just buy more gas the day before or the day after the boycott day. The gas companies know they got us, we need gas to run our vehicles and maintain our livelyhood.

ToyotaPitty

We're at $2.90 today. Went up .10 in one night. This increase has spurred me on to looking for ways to save on gasmiles. Here is an interesting article that I found. What do you think?

I made a thread about how to get gas prices to go down.

Gas is about $2.65 for regular unleaded here today.

ToyotaPitty

wow... only $2.65? We're up to 2.91 here in Erie... and we're usually good for having cheap gas.

GearHead

HAH! This thread was started BEFORE the huge gas hike of August/September!

I don't think any of the fuel hikes from when this thread was started are comparable to what we experienced in the summer of 2008. The timing on that one was horrible because it happened at the same time as the housing market crash.

Prices here in CA are close to $4 a gallon as of now, starting to get expensive again...

MuddyTacoma

It started to drop again!!! I think my last fill-up was about $3.25 per gallon or so.

Really? Last time I saw it here it was $4.15 per gallon. Didn't look today though, but believe that was what it was yesterday.

This morning I paid $3.29 per gallon but got a 3 cents of per gallon with my store card. So I was able to get it down to $3.26 per gallon. I was hopeful when gas here went down to $2.92 per gallon last week, but alas that was a temporary thing.

Still $3.83 here, and that's cheap compared to what it has been a few times over the past year.

In North Texas we had dropped all the way to $2.9999 a couple of months ago ... now it's back up to like $3.30, which is a 10% gain in case you were counting.

kaveg

I'm in North Texas, too, Plano to be exact and this week the gas station closest to me is at $3.22 per gallon and with my 3 cents off per gallon store discount card, that would be $3.19 of course I every week I hold my breath hoping it continues to go down instead of jumping up again as it usually does on the day I need to fill up. ;)

GearHead
10-25-2011, 03:00 PM
Haha. I find myself trying to speculate on which day will be best to head for the pumps, and I tend to fill up every time I see it drop a bit whether I need it or not :).

toyotafan
10-30-2011, 10:56 PM
We are dropping again! That's wonderful news, I think it was $3.19 when I filled up last time. Ed Wallace on the radio said he wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't hit $4.75 by the end of next summer again.

Toyota Girl
11-02-2011, 02:03 PM
wow, I guess it's a lot cheaper in other parts of the country. I'm not sure but I think we are pushing upwards to $4 per gallon again. :-( I don't even pay attention anymore, I just bendover and pay for it at the pump.

MuddyTacoma

We have been up and down like an e-ticket ride. Seriously, I think there has been a $.50 per gallon swing in the last 8 weeks.

toyotafan
12-09-2011, 12:05 PM
I'm getting a little tired of the huge swings that we've been seeing in gas prices again.

In DFW we got down to about $2.90 recently, but things are going back up. All of those speculators must be working hard to manipulate the market again.
